Software Updates

StormTunnel checks for updates on every launch and every 24 hours while running. Auto-update is enabled by default.

Check for updates manually

From the menu bar:

  1. Click the StormTunnel menu.
  2. Select Check for Updates...

If an update is available, a dialog shows the version number, release notes, and an Install and Relaunch button.

You can also check from Settings (Cmd+,) > Updates > Check for Updates Now.

What happens during an update

When an update is found, StormTunnel downloads it in the background and verifies its EdDSA signature. You choose when to install -- either immediately (the app quits, installs, and relaunches) or on next quit.

Disable auto-update

Open Settings (Cmd+,) > Updates and uncheck Automatically check for updates.

Warning

Disabling auto-update means you will not receive security patches automatically. Check manually on a regular basis.

Update security

All updates are signed with EdDSA (ed25519), notarized by Apple, and delivered over HTTPS. An update that fails signature verification is rejected automatically.

Manual installation

If needed, download the latest DMG from storm-tunnel.app, quit StormTunnel, and drag the new copy into Applications to replace the existing one. Your settings and tunnels are preserved.
